How do Unique Variants work?

Learn which items can become Unique and what happens when you use a Unique Token.

A Unique Variant is a special version of an item with a different appearance and, in some cases, a different name or artwork. The item page will show you when a Unique Variant exists.

Which items can become Unique?

The item must support Investigation, be Epic, Legendary, Mythic, or Exotic, and have a Unique Variant shown on its page. Investigate it before using a Unique Token.

Use a Unique Token

1. Open the investigated item you want to change.
2. Choose Try Unique (2%).
3. Confirm that you want to use one Unique Token.

If it works, the item becomes Unique and keeps its quality score. An unsuccessful try still uses the token, and the item stays as it was.

Every try has the same 2% chance. Your chance does not improve after previous tries, and a string of unsuccessful tries never guarantees the next result.

Unique items from drops

When a drop includes an item with a Unique Variant, it has a 2% chance to arrive Unique. This uses no token.
