A game a day with Erika,a game featuring Barbie’s Feed, Pop & Repeat!
Drag snacks to overfeed adorable animals until they hilariously explode in rainbow glory, then feed the next wave of hungry beasts! It is currently sitting at 23.6k plays with a 1:02 median play time.
As you play the game, you have to feed the animals the correct food until they burst. Over time, the game becomes harder and harder, but it is still more of a casual experience, especially since the lose condition happens after about 14 wrong feeds.
A few of the things I changed from the original game were adding a story, creating a cute intro, condensing the game down to three animals, and adding cute animations. I also added cute graphics and different types of food, which helped make the game feel more upbeat and enjoyable.
One thing people were a little confused about was why the animals were blowing up. I think because the game had a cute style, it was a little unexpected, so I tried adding an egg to help explain it. Even though this was a better version of the game, it didn’t perform as well as the original.
If I had to change it again, I would probably make the animals more like balloons instead of having them explode. I would also make the game a little more challenging by adding more difficulty to the feeding system and adding more elements to the gameplay.
Originally, the idea was going to be a pop game where the animals would explode and hit monsters, but that became too confusing and there was too much happening. I decided to simplify the idea and make changes based on feedback.
One thing that I learned is that sometimes when you make a new version of a game, it might not perform as well at first. However, it is still important to experiment and see what works and what doesn’t with the game.
Be sure to follow and stay tuned, as tomorrow I will show off a different version of the game, featuring one of my other successful games.
