Lowlight is a place to share gaming moments, find communities, and connect with other players. These Community Guidelines explain what is and is not allowed so everyone can participate without being threatened, exploited, deceived, or deliberately driven away.
These Guidelines are part of our Terms of Service. They apply to everyone who uses Lowlight and to all content and activity on the service, including profiles, usernames, posts, videos, comments, messages, communities, links, and live or interactive features.
How these rules apply
These Guidelines are the platform-wide minimum for Lowlight. Community and server leaders may create additional local rules for their spaces, but local rules cannot permit conduct prohibited by these Guidelines or Lowlight's Terms.
Context matters. We consider the content itself, surrounding conversation, apparent intent, severity, likely harm, relevant history, and whether an account is attempting to evade an earlier restriction. Educational, documentary, newsworthy, or counterspeech context may affect a decision, but it is not a blanket exception and should be made clear in the content itself.
If you are unsure whether something belongs on Lowlight, choose the safer option and do not post or send it.
Protect safety
Violence, threats, and dangerous organizations
Do not threaten, encourage, celebrate, or help others carry out serious physical harm. Do not use Lowlight to organize violence, share credible threats, glorify violent extremist activity, or recruit for organizations that promote terrorism or systematic violence.
Sexual violence and exploitation
Content that depicts, threatens, promotes, solicits, or facilitates sexual assault, sexual exploitation, trafficking, or non-consensual intimate imagery is prohibited. Never share intimate content without the depicted person's permission.
Youth safety
Any sexualization, grooming, exploitation, or endangerment of a minor is strictly prohibited. This includes child sexual abuse material, sexualized images or comments involving minors, requests for sexual content, and attempts to move a minor into a private sexual interaction. Apparent youth-safety violations may be reported to the appropriate authorities or safety organizations where required.
Self-harm and dangerous behavior
Do not encourage, instruct, glorify, or coordinate suicide, self-injury, eating disorders, or dangerous challenges. Supportive discussion and recovery-focused content are allowed when they do not provide harmful instructions or target vulnerable people.
Privacy and personal information
Do not expose or threaten to expose another person's private information without permission. This includes home addresses, precise real-time locations, private contact details, login credentials, financial information, government identifiers, or information that could enable stalking, identity theft, or physical harm.
Treat people with respect
Hateful conduct
Do not attack, dehumanize, exclude, or promote hatred or violence against people based on protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, serious medical condition, or veteran status. Slurs, hateful imagery, and praise for hate groups are prohibited when used to target or intimidate.
Harassment and bullying
Disagreement and competitive banter are part of gaming, but sustained or severe abuse is not. Do not coordinate harassment, make credible threats, wish serious harm on someone, repeatedly contact a person after being told to stop, mock a victim of violence, or target someone with degrading personal attacks. Encouraging your audience or friends to pile on another person is also prohibited.
Sexual harassment
Do not direct unwanted sexual comments, advances, objectification, or requests for sexual content at another person. Threatening to share intimate material or using sexual content to shame or control someone is prohibited.
Keep content appropriate
Sexual content and nudity
Pornography, explicit sexual activity, sexual services, and content primarily intended for sexual gratification are not allowed. Nudity or sexual content involving minors is never allowed. Limited non-sexual educational, health, documentary, or artistic context may be considered, but explicit sexual content remains prohibited.
Graphic violence and gore
Do not post real-world gore, mutilation, or graphic death when the purpose is to shock, celebrate suffering, or harass. Gameplay violence may be permitted, but real-world graphic material receives stricter review and may be removed even when shared for commentary if the harm outweighs the context.
Illegal or seriously dangerous activity
Do not use Lowlight to sell illegal goods, facilitate criminal activity, distribute malware, teach people to cause serious harm, or promote dangerous acts likely to injure people. Discussion of safety, prevention, news, or recovery is allowed when it does not meaningfully enable harm.
Protect trust and platform integrity
Spam, scams, and malicious links
Do not send repetitive or unsolicited promotions, run fake giveaways, coordinate fraud, solicit credentials, distribute phishing or malware links, or deceive people about where a link or transaction leads. Commercial activity must follow Lowlight's Terms and any applicable program rules.
Impersonation and deceptive identity
Do not pretend to be another person, creator, company, community, or Lowlight staff in order to mislead others. Parody and fan accounts must be clearly labeled and must not be used for fraud or harassment.
Artificial engagement and automation abuse
Do not buy, sell, exchange, or automate fake follows, views, likes, comments, messages, referrals, rewards, or other platform signals. Bots, scrapers, or scripts may not be used to spam people, bypass safeguards, manipulate rankings, or place unreasonable load on Lowlight.
Ban and restriction evasion
Do not create or use another account, community, or technical workaround to evade a suspension, block, rate limit, feature restriction, or other enforcement action. Do not knowingly help another person evade one.
Harmful misinformation
Do not spread demonstrably false or manipulated claims when they are likely to cause serious real-world harm, interfere with emergency response, enable fraud, or put a person or group in danger. Satire, opinion, and good-faith mistakes are not treated the same as deliberate or reckless deception.
Respect rights and the law
Share only content you have the right to use. Do not infringe copyrights, trademarks, privacy rights, publicity rights, or other legal rights. Rights holders can review our notice process in the Copyright and DMCA section of our Terms.
You must also follow applicable law and the rules of third-party games, services, or competitions you use. Lowlight may remove content or restrict activity when necessary to comply with valid legal obligations.
Reporting concerns
If you see content or behavior that may violate these Guidelines, use the report option available on the relevant post, message, profile, or community. Include accurate details and choose the closest available reason. Do not submit false or coordinated reports to punish someone you disagree with.
For account, safety, or reporting help, contact Lowlight Support. If someone is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first; Lowlight is not an emergency service.
Enforcement and appeals
Depending on severity, context, and history, Lowlight may remove content, limit its distribution, restrict features, issue a warning, suspend an account, or permanently remove an account or community. We may act immediately when needed to protect users, preserve evidence, secure the service, or comply with law.
When community or volunteer moderation tools are enabled, authorized moderators may take limited, reversible actions within their assigned scope. Lowlight staff retain responsibility for serious safety cases, permanent platform enforcement, and appeals.
If you believe an enforcement decision was incorrect, follow the appeal instructions provided with the decision or contact Lowlight Support. Submitting an appeal does not guarantee reversal, but it allows the decision and relevant context to be reviewed.
We may update these Guidelines as Lowlight and its features evolve. Material updates will be reflected by the date at the top of this page.
